Advantages of a Rain Sensor

Dial-in to the Convenience and Value with a Rain Sensor

A Rain Sensor by Rain Bird®  automatically shuts off your sprinkler system when it rains, so you don’t have to worry when you’re home or away.

The Rain Sensor easily connects to most irrigation system controllers.

What is a rain sensor?

A rain sensor is a small device that determines whether or not enough Rain Sensor- Rain Bird wirelessrainfall has occurred in order to skip an irrigation cycle. They are wired directly to your controller.  Wireless is an option as well. Rain sensors are relatively inexpensive and pay for themselves quickly.

How does a rain sensor work?

Depending on the type of rain sensor you have, there are 3 different ways they work.

  1. A collection cup is used to collect and weigh rainfall. The weight of the rainfall will break the electrical connection to the sprinkler pump or sprinkler valves.
  2. Similar to the first way, but instead of using a collection cup, an electrode is used to measure the amount of rain water.
  3. The third way is by using a disc made of cork. When enough rain hits the cork, it expands and triggers the break mechanism of the rain sensor preventing electricity from running to the irrigation system.

What are the advantages to using a rain sensor?
