January Lawn and Plant Care

January lawn and plant care

January is a great time to care for your lawn and garden!

It’s a new year, and with that brings the time to start getting your yard ready for Spring! So what are the things that you need to know for January?

Now is the time to prune the dead and damaged areas of your shrubs and trees. Once you have done this, you will want to fertilize them. It is also a good time to remove/replace any unwanted plants, shrubs, or trees.

On a dry day, mow your lawn to help remove fallen leaves and pine needles. Inspect your yard for winter weeds. Control them by spraying when the weather warms in spring.

Carnations, Pansies, Petunias, and Snapdragons are ideal annuals for the cooler weather. This is a good time to start the seeds of your warm weather flowers to have them ready for spring.

If you are going to be growing tomatoes or peppers this year, get the beds or boxes ready because planting should occur in the early part of February.

Make sure you are keeping dust off your houseplants by removing it with lukewarm water.
