How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are annoying and frustrating. Besides the serious deadly diseases that can be transmitted from mosquito bites, the majority of people experience uncomfortable itching from mosquito bites. There are several methods to getting rid of them, ranging from natural repellents to chemical ones. We understand what a nuisance mosquitoes can be so here are a few ways to either repel or get rid of them.

There is a difference between getting rid of mosquitos and repelling them. While our ecosystem does need those pesky bugs, you may not want hordes of them in your garden. In certain circumstances, getting rid of mosquitos is completely necessary, but at other times, you may want to just repel them so they don’t bite you. Use the following tips at your discretion.

Don’t provide a breeding ground

Check to see if there is any location around your home where they may reproduce. Stagnant water which doesn’t move or flow is necessary for mosquitoes since they only need a small amount of still water to lay their eggs. For example, they can breed in your garden pond or even in pooled water from your air conditioning system. Eventually, the eggs mature and they begin seeking blood and the process starts all over again.

One of your greatest defenses to getting rid of mosquitoes in the future is to ensure they don’t have a place they can reproduce now. Maintain your property, cover and clean any drains or pipes so that there isn’t any way mosquitoes can access standing water. Like most other mosquito control methods, this is an ongoing process.

Mosquito traps

Another method to get rid of mosquitoes are mosquito traps. They operate by producing a light that encourages mosquitoes to enter the trap. Once inside the trap, they’re killed. Mosquitoes can sense a person by detecting the temperature and carbon dioxide they produce. Mosquito traps can lure and catch them by mimicking these behaviors since they also have a high sensitivity to near-ultraviolet radiation. Additionally, they must be set up appropriately for maximum effectiveness in shaded locations. An ideal strategy is to try it out in several locations until you discover the right one for the most efficient mosquito control. Mosquito traps are not the mostly highly effective though, because they must be attracted to the trap in order to work.

Use mosquito sprays

Chemical methods and sprays are extremely effective at getting rid of mosquitos. Consider  MistAway, which starts a 40 up to 60 second mist which settles on the ground, killing mosquitoes in the area. The Mist Away spray contains a variant of pyrethrum which is an insecticide produced from the chrysanthemum flower and is quite safe to use.

MistAway is also virtually invisible, unlike mosquitos. Love Irrigation’s professional installers place the misters on your property, ensuring that the system is customized to your yard. The misters can be placed 10-15 feet around the perimeter of your yard, wherever there is an electrical outlet and a water supply. The mist provides some of the most effective mosquito control. Unlike other methods which can hurt helpful insects like bees and butterflies, MistAway operates at a time when mosquitoes are most effective, therefore efficient and safe.
